Nationals Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke is urging residents in the Young district to come forward for testing as the Hilltops local government area returns to stay-at-home orders for seven days from 6.00pm Friday, September 17.
Stay-at-home orders mean you can only leave your place of residence for a reasonable excuse, including to:
- obtain food or other goods and services locally
- leave home to go to work if:
- you cannot reasonably work from home and
- the business is allowed to be open
- exercise and take outdoor recreation within your local government area or, if you need to cross into another local government area, stay within 5km of your home
- go out for medical or caring reasons, including obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination.
These stay-at-home orders also apply to anyone who has been in the Hilltops LGA including Young and surrounding areas since 3 September.
This announcement follows a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Hilltops local government area, with three more under investigation.
“In light of these developments, can I reiterate my message to the community that there has never been a more important time to step forward for a Covid-19 test,” Ms Cooke said.
To support the demand for testing locally, the MLHD Pop-up Covid-19 Testing Clinic will continue this weekend at the Young Showground Pavilion from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of September.
No appointment is necessary however pre-registration is available on 1800 831 099.
The MLHD is also running a Pop-up Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic at the Young District Hospital on Saturday 18th September from 9am to 2pm, with priority given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those of a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background.
“I understand having confirmed cases of Covid-19 locally is of great concern to our small community, so I think it is also important to note that we need to support each other, and being kind to each other, as we work through this next period,” Ms Cooke said.
“Many of us would have family and friends in other areas of New South Wales who have been dealing with Covid-19 in their local communities at some stage in recent months.
“We are now being asked to do our bit in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, so please, stay vigilant, practice good hygiene and social distancing, get tested and get vaccinated.”
