What an exciting day for Cooma and the Snowy Monaro with the official opening of Cooma Hospital’s brand new state-of-the-art Emergency Department.
The official ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Nationals Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor and Nationals Member for Monaro Nichole Overall.
Mrs Taylor said today is a celebration for the local community and testament to the hard work of those who championed this life-changing project.
“Having spent much of my working life at Cooma Hospital, I know this new ED will make a huge difference to the lives of our health workers and community alike,” Mrs Taylor said.
“This expanded ED includes improved treatment spaces as well as upgraded equipment to meet the current and future health needs of our growing community.”
When complete, Cooma Hospital’s $24 million redevelopment will include a new maternity department, a new ambulatory care centre, and an expanded medical imaging department.
“This project is another example of the NSW Nationals in Government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone in our state has access to high-quality health care close to home,” Mrs Taylor said.
Nichole Overall said the opening of the new Emergency Department is thanks to the huge efforts of so many over a long period, including Bronnie Taylor.
“My role today was small but my pride was great in being present as the Member for Monaro and seeing it delivered for our community,” she said.
“Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to realise this much-needed progress. Also to all of our health professional heroes for everything you continue to do to keep our communities safe and well. It was unexpected, but I was a little humbled to see that I even made it onto my very first plaque.”
