A NSW Nationals in Government grant is set to help usher in a new era for the management of companion animals in the Bathurst Region.
NSW Nationals Bathurst MP Paul Toole said the $166,519 Stronger Country Communities Fund grant was for Bathurst Regional Council to construct a new animal shelter in the city.
The project will include an adoption pavilion and companion animal education facility.
“The Bathurst Rehoming Centre will provide a modern, large capacity facility which not only provides a welcoming customer environment, but also a shelter which exceeds all expectations for animal welfare outcomes,” Mr Toole said.
“This state of the art facility will be built in the new industrial estate at Kelso and will replace the existing small animal pound on the Vale Road which has well and truly reached its use-by date.
“Rehoming of stray dogs and cats is also becoming a more and more popular option for people looking for a pet and in years to come I am sure many companion animals will find their forever homes at the new Bathurst Rehoming Centre.”
