Federal Nationals Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie, and NSW Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, have taken part in the official opening of the recently completed upgrade of the Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club.
In 2021, Dr Gillespie and the late NSW Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, announced $425,000 in federal and state funding for an expansion of the club building including upgrades to first aid rooms, bathrooms and emergency response areas.
The funding was made available under the Australian and NSW Government Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Program.
Dr Gillespie said following the devastating impact of the bushfires on the region a few years back, the former federal and state governments worked together to develop several programs targeting key areas of need to assist rebuild and support communities and this project was another successful initiative that received support.
“This project is an important upgrade for our local community in that it has delivered the necessary emergency service upgrades for the Old Bar Surf Club but also new hospitality facilities to service the Club’s members, the local community and those visiting the area,” Dr Gillespie said.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate the members of the Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club on a great project well done.”
Mrs Thompson said it was great to see the club flourishing, thanks to the hard work of its members.
“A special thank you to my predecessor, Stephen Bromhead, for his involvement in this project,” Mrs Thompson said.
