The NSW Nationals in the state government’s Women in Agriculture Lunch and Learn series kicks off across the state today, shining a light on safety for farming families.
In partnership with Essential Energy, the 20 free events will take place across regional towns until July 15, focusing on safety while working in rural settings.
Nationals Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said women have a huge influence on improved health and safety outcomes of rural workplaces.
“Farming workplaces bring their own unique set of safety challenges as both a workplace and the family home,” Mrs Taylor said.
“Women are often the centre of making business decisions, running the farm, and managing family life throughout the day, playing a critical role in building a culture of safety.”
The series will cover issues including working near electricity, emergency preparedness and response, safety around farm vehicles, and at-risk workers and contractors.
Tragically, farming accounts for one in every five worker deaths. That’s why these events are so important for the women at the centre of farming families.
Nationals Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders said a thriving agriculture industry must prioritise the safety of farming families.
“These sessions are an opportunity to hold real discussions around the prevention of injury in the agricultural community, I encourage everyone to register and take part in this important initiative,” Mr Saunders said.
The interactive event will provide participants with the opportunity to speak with presenters connected to the sector and network with like-minded women in agriculture.
